Kushano Sasanians, Kings of Merv under Shapur I AD 240-270. AE unit.
17.34mm, 2.85gm. Merv mint. Sasanian style bust LEFT / mounted figure carrying upright spear, riding left, traces of legend or streamers behind head. Alram 1218A var, Zeno #108674Good Very fine. Extremely rare for bust left.
 
 
Note:
The Kushano-sasanians were sasanian princes ruling the old kushan lands in Bactria, the Kabul valley and Gandhara, as sasanian vasalls. Some periods these kushan-shahs were more or less independent, like this ruler, Hormazd I Kushanshah, ruling about AD 295-325 (or 270-295 according to Cribb). Mint for this type might be the Kabul valley.
